BUCYRUS — Cindy Light has been directing plays at the Bucyrus Little Theatre, and as a teacher in Willard, for more than two decades.
Light is excited to work with two newer directors on the Little Theatre’s latest production, The Great Gatsby, that kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 7,
“I love what the theater can do for kids,” Light said. “I acted in plays growing up and learned a lot at the Bucyrus Little Theatre from people like Bob Slater and Bill Usher. I know how much it helped me, and I want that for other young people.”
She said many shy kids come out of their shells after participating in the many productions the Theatre offers each year.
“I want as many young people to have this experience as possible,” Light said.
One of those actors is 17-year-old Sydney Harris.
“I have been acting for nine years, since I was 8-years-old. I love engaging with the audience,” Harris said.
She said acting has helped her become less shy and a lot better at public speaking.
Linda Hess said she is excited to work with Light as a director of The Great Gatsby, along with Marina Bayless.
“It is a great opportunity to work on a classic adult drama with two other amazing and talented directors,” Hess said.
The show stars Clifford Heidebrecht as Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, who passionately pursues the elusive Daisy Buchanan. More than 10 actors and support staff will be part of the production.
The production features two matinee shows at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 15 and evening shows at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, 13 and 14.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students in addition to a small processing fee. To order tickets, visit the Bucyrus Little Theatre website.
