NEW WASHINGTON — Multiple fire departments responded to a fire on Connely Road on Thursday morning.
The four departments worked to extinguish the fire that was reported at approximately 9:30 a.m.

According to information provided by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, units responded to 6529 Connely Road to a prefabricated house fire. One resident was home at the time of the fire.
The residence is owned by Gary and Brenda Riley.
Brenda Riley was in the residence and was evacuated from the residence with two dogs. A cat perished as a result of the incident.

Additional safety concerns rose from oxygen tanks located in the residence. The tanks were removed without incident.
According to reports, smoke infiltrated the entire residence, but the fire was contained to the living room and kitchen area.
The cause of the fire was not known at the time.

Responding to the scene was Lykens Township, Liberty Township, Chatfield Township and New Washington fire departments; Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service.
The Red Cross also was called to the scene.
