U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) delivered remarks on the Senate floor Monday urging his colleagues to support his bipartisan Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act (ESIC).
The legislation has received widespread support from both Democrats and Republicans as well as industry leaders, energy-efficiency advocates and environmental stakeholders. The bill’s supporters say it would reduce pollution, save consumers money and create jobs.
Last week, a group of 270 industry leaders sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) requesting that ESIC be considered by the Senate.
The Senate is expected to consider ESIC this week.
