BUCYRUS — The Bucyrus Athletic Department is hosting the 8th annual Sam Sabback Girls Tennis Invitational this Saturday, September 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Bucyrus Community Courts located at the Bucyrus Secondary Building.
Admission is free and parking for spectators will be in the middle school parking lot located south of the tennis complex.
Eight teams will participate in the ear’s event. In addition to his host Lady Redmen, Bucyrus coach John Supon welcomes Clear Fork, Galion, Ontario, Pleasant, River Valley, Shelby and Upper Sandusky.
The invitational is named in honor of a Bucyrus native, the late Sam Sabback, who graciously gave his time teaching tennis to over a thousand individuals in Crawford, Wyandot and Richland counties. Sam is a member of the Bucyrus Hall of Fame and the Lakewood Racket Club Hall of Fame.
Supon noted that he is honored to be hosting an invitational named for Sabback, who was the driving force behind tennis becoming popular in Bucyrus and the surrounding areas.
This year’s field is one of the strongest in the history of the invitational, according to Supon, with some of the best tennis players in the area are participating.
