Kalb Farms, 4593 Eaton Road, owned by Hord Family Farms suffered damage from a fire in a barn containing hogs Sunday morning.
According to Holmes Township Fire Chief John Schiefer, a call came into the department Sunday at 7:54 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found a working fire in progress in the barn.
In what Schiefer called a “great turnout,” responders came from Bucyrus, Liberty, Chatfield, Holmes, Sycamore and Dallas townships and Wyandot East departments.
The fire was placed under control. Several transport semi-trucks belonging to Hord Farms were on hand to transport the living animals to other barns.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
