Speed and failure to stop at a marked intersection were the apparent primary factors in a two-vehicle accident Friday evening just north of Galion.

Code 4 1-16-000805bThe Crawford County Sheriff’s Office report indicates that 45-year-old Phillip Turner Jr. of Galion was traveling west on Brandt Road when he failed to stop at the intersection with North Market Street. As a result Turner’s pick-up truck went airborne and landed on an eastbound Jeep operated by 24-year-old Russell Brown of Shelby.

Turner’s vehicle came to rest on the south of the road in a swamp while Brown’s was on the south side of the road. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and towed from the scene.

Both drivers were transported from the scene to Galion Community Hospital along with a passenger in Brown’s vehicle, 19-year-old Miranda Kelly of Galion. No additional information was immediately available regarding the extent of their injuries or their current condition.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation of the accident.
