Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold sentenced two men to prison during proceedings on Monday – one for violating community control while out on judicial release.
Twenty-nine-year-old Darek Dennison admitted to violating his community control by selling property that was stolen, failing to report as required and failing to comply with a treatment program. Leuthold told Dennison his case of recidivism was an example of the failure of the justice system to adequately punish previous offenses.
Dennison was convicted of drug possession and receiving stolen property. Leuthold ordered Dennison to serve the remainder of his original sentence which amounts to approximately seven months.
Nineteen-year-old Skyler Gearhart was originally charged with robbery but pleaded guilty to an amended charge of aggravated assault. Gearhart and others lure the victim of the crime to a secluded spot where they assaulted him with the intention of robbing him.
The judge sentenced Gearhart to the maximum prison term of 18 months.
Douglas Swart was in court for his initial appearance on charges of violating community control by not completing a drug and alcohol treatment program. The judge set his bond at $150,000.
Tonya Roberson was placed on community control for five years and ordered to pay $1,172.48 in restitution following her guilty plea to forgery. Tonya Roberson must also complete a drug and alcohol treatment program.
Amanda Hutchinson pleaded guilty to two counts of felony drug possession. The judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation. The prosecutor recommended five years of community control, treatment, $1,250 in fines and a six-month suspension of her driver’s license.
Janice Price pleaded guilty to felony drug possession and was sentenced to five years of community control, treatment and $2,500 drug fine. Price’s license was also suspended for six months.
Tamara Roberson pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony theft. Tamara Roberson was ordered to pay $7,751.72 in restitution to BAY Soccer and placed n community control for five years. The judge ordered a review in 90 days to get a report on the progress she is making in paying restitution.
“We’re not just dropping this to the side and forgetting about it,” Leuthold said.
