Unlike recent meetings between the Bucyrus Board of Zoning Appeals and the company intending to build a Tim Hortons restaurant, Tuesday’s meeting went off without a hitch and puts the breakfast chain one step closer to opening.
RSSUM Holdings, LLC, submitted a request to construct a free-standing monument sign near the driveway entrance on South Sandusky Avenue. Due to the property being within a Neighborhood Business District, free-standing signs are not permitted there without a granted variance, though Taco Bell and Hardee’s signs were grandfathered into the ordinances.
Jennifer Francis, the manager for new development at RSSUM Holdings, said the company tends to use pylon signs on a pole, but trees would block visibility of the sign. As a compromise, Zoning Administrator John Rostash suggested a monument sign prior to the meeting, which would be smaller and more community-friendly.
The proposed monument sign would be 6-feet-8-inches wide and 6 feet tall.
Rostash added that he spoke with the apartment complex owner to the south about the placement of the sign. In order to avoid any visibility concerns for the tenants, the sign will be moved near the driveway entrance.
The Board of Zoning Appeals approved the grant variance.
Francis said Tim Hortons is expected to open at the end of October or early November.
