Mansfield Street in Bucyrus was transformed into Halloweentown Sunday afternoon as super heroes, witches, princesses, Mario Brothers, and ninjas took over for the annual Spooktacular.

In its tenth year, the Spooktacular was more spread out for families than in past years featuring a bike raffle, a fishing pond, as well as trick or treating from a few businesses. With perfect October weather, it made for a spectacular Spooktacular.

Wyatt Tomlin explained why he dressed as Bowser from the Super Mario Brothers game.

“Because I like him,” said young Wyatt, aka Bowser.

Wyatt’s family filled out the rest of the cast of the Super Mario Brothers with his father Ryan as Mario, his mother Jesseca as Luoigi , and sister Clara as Princess Peach.

Noah Bailey explained why he showed up to the Spooktacular as the “Caped Crusader”.

“Because I like Batman,” said the Bucyrus edition of the Gotham City Crime Fighter

Michael Terry explained why he was dressed as Spiderman.

“Because he is my favorite, guy, character,” admitted the web-slinging arch enemy of bad guys everywhere.

Of course there were other reasons for making costume choices.

“Because I didn’t have any other costume,”said Jaden Mayse about his get-up.

Jayce Mayse explained that his costume was Storm Shaddow. “Because he’s cool.”

Casey Gillen who chaired explained that the event wouldn’t be possible without the help of donations and people who volunteered their time.

“We had an amazing outpouring from ODOT, the Crestline Red Cross, the IFF Local 1120, and AFCSME 1728. Champion Food Services donated 1,500 boxes filled with goodies, each child gets a box, and whatever is leftover will be handed out at the fire station for trick-or-treat on Thursday,” Gillen said.

“I would also like to thank Linda Friend, who spear-headed the Spooktacular 10 years ago,” Gillen continued.
