Derrick Hughett managed to stay out of prison as a result of a plea agreement with the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office.
The 31-year-old Galion resident pleaded guilty Monday in Crawford County Common Pleas Court to an amended charge of felony 3 attempted burglary. Hughett was originally charged with felony two burglary in an incident in December of 2013.
Hughett was sentenced Monday to three years on community control and must pay restitution of $1,239.99 to the victims. In addition to a fine and court costs, Hughett must also successfully complete a drug and alcohol treatment program. Hughett’s co-defendant in the case is Billy Riddle.
In an unrelated case Monday, Chelsea Griffin of Mansfield was granted her motion for the Intervention in Lieu of Conviction program. Griffin’s guilty plea to felony drug passion will be held while she is on the intervention program for two years and then dropped if the 24-year-old successfully completes the program.
Griffin was arrested with heroin last month and is eligible for the intervention program because she has no prior felony convictions.
