GALION — A Crawford County man has died as a result of a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.
The crash occurred when a white 2016 Ford Truck F-550 owned by Gundenkauf Corporation and driven by a forty-two year old male for Gallia County, was traveling East on Monnett-New Winchester Road, where he failed to yield at the intersection of Ohio 100.
The truck entered the northbound lane of Ohio 100 and struck a white 2001 Toyota that was driven by a thirty-three year old male from Crawford County. The truck went off the roadway and came to rest on its side, while the car rested on Monnett-New Winchester Road and reportedly caught on fire. Whetstone Township Volunteer Fire Department utilized the JAWS unit to remove the driver from the car.
The driver of the car was initially loaded into a MedFlight helicopter but was removed due to his condition and placed into a Life Support Team EMS ambulance and transported to the Galion Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the truck was transported by the Galion Fire Department to the Galion Hospital in critical condition. He was then flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Photos, videos and the drivers’ identities have not been published per the request of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office as families are properly notified.
