An urgent case was brought to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County when a Good Samaritan brought in a wounded dog Friday.

The male Coonhound Walker is estimated to be one to four years of age and was found in the Orr Rd. area west of State Route 19. The dog was immediately taken to the veterinarian’s office where his shoulder and ear wounds were stitched. According to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County’s Facebook page the vet that the dog was taken to was certain that the wounds were caused by a gun shot.

Humane Society Serving Crawford County Director Victoria Carmean gave an update on the dog.

“It’s all very vague, we don’t have an owner. The dog was brought in by a Good Samaritan and he understood the need for the dog to find its home, and get vet care immediately. So he did bring it to us which is what people should do, and we went ahead and did what we always do with an injured animal. Whether we pick it up, get called to pick it up, or whether the dog is brought to us we do have an emergency medical fund that helps us with those animals when those needs arise. The dog was brought in to the vet minutes of it coming through or door.

“The vet cleaned and stitched it. There is wound on the shoulder and ear that I believe were stitched. The dog is resting comfortably now, and will go into foster care as soon as it is released from the veterinarian’s office,” Carmean continued.

While the Humane Society Serving Crawford County isn’t asking for donations, those who would like to donate can do so via Paypal on the Humane Society Serving Crawford County’s webpage and be marked in for “coonhound.” Carmean noted what the donations would be used for.

“The donations will go to help with his care, and if there is anything over and above that, we would put that in emergency medical funds, which is something that gets depleted very rapidly, and that would go to help any further animals that would come in that way over the year. “

Carmean noted that with appropriate care the dog should make a rapid recovery.

“Many times animals in general heal very well. Their recovery is rapid. Hopefully, we can get the dog either moved into foster or the owner will step forward so that we can release this dog appropriately and make sure that the recovery is the best that it can be for the dog,” Carmean said.

While the owner is unknown, Carmean said that she hopes that the owner can be found so they can take the dog to finish up with the recovery and follow up with the veterinarian.

The Humane Society Serving Crawford County asks if the owner would come forward to please call them as soon as possible at 419-562-9149.
