Crawford County high school teams clashed at Crestline’s Hutson stadium for the annual Crawford County Track meet Friday.

With 180 points scored through the 17 events the Galion Tigers boys won the boys team competition. Colonel Crawford finished second with 157 points.

The Galion Lady Tigers ran away in the girl’s team competition with a score of 205 points. Colonel Crawford’s Lady Eagles finished second with a score of 140 points.

Drake Barnett, who won the 200 meter dash (22.90) and finished second in the 100 meter dash (11.37). Barnett was also part of the first place 4×200 relay (1:32.35) and the first place 4×100 relay (45.16). He won the boys’ MVP honors for track events.

“It’s a pretty amazing feeling,” Barnett said about receiving MVP honors. “Still got a lot of Gavin Ratcliffwork to do. We’ve been working since the end of March to get where we’ve been and we’re pretty happy with it.”

With a first place discus throw of 146’ and a third place shot put of 43’ Gavin Ratcliff won MVP for the boys’ field events.

“I worked all week, struggled at the beginning of the week,” Ratcliff said. “I had no idea I was going to win this award. I’ve got to thank all my coaches, all the hard work they put in for us, in the weight room.

“We come here to win,” Ratcliff added, “and that’s what Michaela Slonewe did, that’s what you see right here. You got four MVPs. That’s what we came here to do. “

With first place finishes in the 100 meter dash (12.87), 400 meter dash (1:01.03), a second place finish in the 200 meter dash (27.47), and part of Galion’s first place 4×100 relay team (52.63), Michaela Slone won MVP honors in the girls’ track events.

“I have aimed for this since my freshmen year, so as a senior it’s kind of nice to go out and have this. It’s an honor,” Slone explained.Marisa Gwinner

With first place finishes in the high jump (5’2”) and long jump (17’) Marisa Gwinner took MVP honors for the girls’ field events.

“As a freshman it is insane to think about it,” Gwinner said about winning MVP honors as a freshman, “But I put a lot of hard work into it and it is great to see this as the outcome.”
