The second of two defendants in this summer’s robbery of the Freezer Fresh dairy and fast food bar appeared for arraignment on Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday.
Kalib Utz was arraigned on a first-degree felony aggravated robbery charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison. Utz allegedly robbed the Freezer Fresh in Crestline with a firearm on July 15. One of his co-defendants, Mikel Knetter, was previously arraigned on a similar charge.
“Attempted robbery is a more serious crime,” Judge Leuthold commented. He added that using a weapon in the alleged crime cried out for a high bond.
Leuthold set bond at $1 million and appointed Brad Starkey as Utz’s attorney.
Utz’s record included a third-degree felony tampering with evidence and a fifth-degree felony theft in 2015.

Forty-six-year-old Carrie Snyder of Crestline pleaded guilty to drug possession. As part of her plea agreement, she will placed on community control for five years, fined $1,250, and forfeit drug-related property being held to the Crestline Police Department. Snyder will enter into a drug and alcohol treatment program and her driver’s license will also be suspended for six months. Judge Leuthold ordered a pre-sentence investigation and continued her bond.
Thirty-two-year-old Tara Painter of North Robinson failed her intervention program when she admitted to testing positive for opiates and using heroin in court Tuesday afternoon. Though she tested negative for drugs before her court hearing, Judge Leuthold believe it was a “technically negative test” and suspected that she had used since September.
Leuthold accepted the guilty plea on her original drug possession charge and sentenced Painter to five years on community control, placed her on the court’s Intensive Supervision and Treatment, fined her $1,250, and suspended her driver’s license for six month.
