Memorial Day of 2016 will be memorable for residents at the Bucyrus Plaza Apartments.
The Bucyrus Fire Department received a call at 6:45 p.m. Monday evening about a fire in Apartment 9. Although the fire was contained primarily to that one unit, several others received smoke and water damage.
Captain Gordon Grove said the report indicated the fire was “suspicious in nature” and the subject of an “ongoing investigation.” Grove said that while the investigation thus far has been handled by Bucyrus Fire Department personnel, the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted.
No one was home in Apartment 9 at the time of the fire and residents of other occupied apartments in that building were vacated. Grove said the local chapter of the American Red Cross were called in to help relocate residents from at least four apartments, including Apartment 9.
No one was injured as a result of the fire.
Pre-incident values for the building and contents were approximately $280,000 and $60,000, respectively. Damage estimates are $60,000 to the property and $6,000 to contents.
