They say that every dog has his day, and on Friday night at Dillinger’s the Humane Society Serving Crawford County held their annual “Putting on the Dog” auction benefit so that more dogs have a chance to have theirs.
In its seventh year the Humane Society Serving Crawford County’s “Putting on the Dog” benefit auction raises money to go towards a variety of uses for the county’s humane society shelter.
Humane Society Serving Crawford County Director Victoria Carmean explained what the money raised at the benefit goes towards.
“It helps us with some of our general operating expenses, it helps us with special projects that we have going on. The money has been helpful in the past to cover things like repaving the parking lot, helping us with spay/neuter coupons, and that type of thing. ” Carmean said.
Items ranging from sports memorabilia, to gift cards, to items to pamper one’s pooch, and even a cake made of m&m’s were up for bid at the “Putting on the Dog” event with hopes to raise $3,500-$4,000.
While the dinner and auction may have been the main event to raise money, other activities to help raise money for the Crawford County Humane Society were also going on simultaneously. A silent auction was held during the live auction, a 50/50 drawing in which Mardi Gras beads were used to determine the winner was held, and a cat scoop game was played in which people would pay $5 to scoop through cat litter to receive a token with a number, if the token number was drawn the person would then receive a prize.
The Bucyrus Radio Group’s Will Beard emceed the event, while auctioneer Mark Yosick provided his auctioneering skills for the auction.
Once the auction wrapped up at 8 p.m. the band Bootleg City provided entertainment for the crowd.
