The City of Bucyrus, through its Board of Control, did some shopping for the coming year on Wednesday morning.
The biggest item was the contract for the East Southern Avenue storm improvement project where the city felt like it got a bargain worth taking from Dellinger Excavating from Monroeville. The project will involve installing storm pipe from the east corporation line on Southern Avenue to Whetstone Street. There will also be storm sewer connections over to Robinhood and Sherwood drives and separation of some storm water from sanitary sewers.
Dellinger got the contract with a base bid of $527,120.06 along with both alternate bids – $23,761.00 for south side drainage and $11,530.00 for fencing. All the work totaled less than the $600,000 estimated price tag of the base project alone.
The project, which has been approximately six years in the planning, is expected to start soon with a 180-day completion target.

Other contracts awarded Wednesday were those for project materials.
HD Supply and Ferguson Waterworks split the water distribution supplies contracts for 2017. Carmeuse Lime, Chemtrade Chemicals, Bonded Chemical, JCI Jones and Shannon Chemical all got a piece of the city’s business for water filtration supplies.
When it came to Street Department supplies, the city opted to keep its business local. National Lime and Stone got all the limestone business and Bucyrus Road Materials will take care of the city’s asphalt needs.

The other order of business on Wednesday for the Board of Control was the opening of bids for the 2017 mill and pave projects. The city received two bids that were as competitive as they were close.
The mill and pave projects were estimated at $604,000. Helms and Sons submitted a base bid of $494, 102.79 and Bucyrus Road Materials’ bid was $495,569.00.
Both companies also submitted two alternate bids. The Board of Control will award the mill and pave contract at a later date under the lowest and best bid standard.
