Cooperation among local law enforcement agencies and a little detective work resulted in Bucyrus police finding a man and motorcycle they believe fled the city during a high speed pursuit Wednesday evening.

Twenty-three-year-old Jacob Thompson is being held on charges of failure to comply when he and a motorcycle matching the description of one police unsuccessfully pursued were located at 938 Union St. in Bucyrus.

According to the police report, an officer was involved in a high speed pursuit at approximately 7:45 Wednesday evening that began in the city limits and eventually went into the county. Chief David Koepke said an officer attempted to make a traffic stop of the driver and motorcycle on South Sandusky Avenue after the officer observed the motorcycle swerving.

The driver of the motorcycle did not stop and the pursuit ensued. It eventually went outside the city limits on the east side of town until the officer lost sight of the motorcycle according to Koepke.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Galion Police Department at 7:57 to be on the lookout for a green and black motorcycle being pursued by Bucyrus police on Ohio 100 and approaching Galion-New Winchester Road.

Galion police did not locate the motorcycle coming into its jurisdiction, but Koepke said a conversation with the Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol indicated troopers had previously been in pursuit of a motorcycle matching that description. That conversation with the State Highway Patrol also resulted in information the motorcycle and the operator may be at the Union Street address.

Upon further investigation, Bucyrus police located Thompson and a motorcycle matching the description of the one pursued earlier in the evening at the Union Street address.

Thompson was taken to the Crawford County Justice Center and is being held there for a court appearance.
