The Buckeye Central High School football team is in search of a head coach following Jeff Niedermier’s resignation. Niedermier’s resignation was accepted at Thursday’s Board of Education meeting.

Niedermier cited family obligations as the reason for his resignation. Niedermier, who graduated from Buckeye Central and went on to star at the University at Buffalo, will stay on with the school in a teaching capacity.

Superintendent Mark Robinson explained why Niedermier stepped down.

“The first thing I would like to say is thank you to Mr. Niedermier because he was head varsity coach for three years, did a very nice job, had three successful seasons,” Robinson said. “But he wants to move on. He is going to have a child coming up and he wants to do family things, he wants to focus on his teaching so he decided to step down.”

Niedermier’s record in charge of the Bucks is 13-17, including back-to-back 5-5 seasons in 2014 and this season that just concluded.

The school board approved the second reading of all revisions and additions to the Buckeye Central School District policies. Robinson explained to the board that most of the changes deal with changes in Ohio Revised Code.

Also approved within the policy is the district’s emergency operations plan. Robinson explained that the 100-page document would not be made public due information contained that if made public could put the students and faculty at risk in the event of certain emergencies.

Treasurer Nancy Ackerman reported that the finances are running fairly normal for the early part of the fiscal year. Ackerman noted that in October the district received a larger than normal check from the state foundation as a make up for lesser than normal funds from July through September. Ackerman told board members a fund for activities that take place at the Outdoor Learning Center was needed while closing the fund that was used to build the Outdoor Learning Center.

During his report, Robinson explained that the PARCC test assessment has returned to the school with good results. According to the chart during Robinson’s presentation the school district finished ahead of the state’s recommended performance level with the exception of ELA in the 7th and 8th grades. Robinson said that the school should know more about the testing scores in January. Robinson also noted that with the AIR tests the results are expected to be returned to the schools within six weeks after completion of the tests.

Prior to adjourning Robinson announced that the new website for the district was up and running. People can visit the website at http://www.buckeye-central.k12.oh.us/.

The next Buckeye Central Board meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 in the Multipurpose Room. There will also be a board work session at 4 p.m. on Dec. 7.
