A Crestline man made an initial appearance in Crawford County Municipal Court Monday afternoon on a charge of first-degree felony rape.
Nathan S. McIe, of Crestline, was charged with first-degree rape, which carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence and a Tier III sexual offender registration if found guilty.
“The nature of this offense is extremely sensitive,” remarked assistant prosecutor Rob Kidd during the hearing.
Kidd, who requested a $500,000 bond, stated the allegation stemmed from a complaint within the Crestline school district after a student acted strangely on a bus. Children’s Services became involved and the juvenile alleged the defendant had sexual contact with the child.
Mcie declined an opportunity to speak.
“I find Mr. McIe to be incredibly dangerous to any child,” Municipal Court Judge Shane Leuthold said.
The judge, believing McIe to be a risk to the community and a flight risk, doubled Kidd’s requested bond and set it at $1 million.
“I’m not going to give him another chance to commit a crime of this nature in this county on my watch,” Leuthold added.
He appointed Adam Stone as McIe’s attorney.
Two people were placed on community control after their guilty pleas in Crawford County Common Pleas Court Monday afternoon.
Thirty-two-year-old John Inman, of Mansfield, and 23-year-old Natasha Dent, of Galion, each received five years on community control in exchange for their guilty pleas. Inman pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony burglary while Dent admitted to drug possession, a fifth-degree felony.
