The end of the year is making for some significant changes in New Washington, most notably the resignations of several long-time civil servants.

bergerWhen the curtain truly does fall on 2015 it will also mark the last bow of Village Solicitor John Berger. At Monday night’s New Washington Village Council Meeting, Berger announced that the end of the year would also signal the end of his time in village service.

The announcement brings to an end a term of service dating back to the 1970’s. Berger’s father was the village solicitor before him. Berger is not putting away his attorney’s shingle entirely, but he wants to focus more completely on his private practice in his last few years before complete retirement.

Next year will bring with it several other vacancies including the seat of long-time council member Gert Durnwald who is also retiring. Council will begin to consider potential replacements. Appointments to these vacant seats will be made at the first meeting of 2016.
