Buckeye Central Middle School students will have a new person to call principal for the upcoming school year after the Buckeye Central School District Board of Education approved hiring Deb Daniel.

Daniel had two contracts unanimously approved Tuesday night. One salaried contract for the 2016-2017 school year, and one contract that will pay Daniel on an hourly basis during June and July of this year.
Daniel comes to the Buckeye Central School District from the Plymouth-Shiloh School District where she served as District Curriculum Director.
Discussion about a proposed drug and alcohol testing program by the board didn’t result in a new policy yet, however the board was in agreement that the school should implement a policy. Superintendent Mark Robinson provided examples of testing done in a few local districts, with questions of whether the school should do randomized testing throughout the school, or whether the testing would be reserved for students participating in the school’s extracurricular activities and driving to school.
A representative from Thomas Porter Architects delivered a time table for the design process for the proposed auxiliary gymnasium. During discussion, the representative noted that the length of the design process could take as short as a few weeks, in which they would identify the scope, criteria, and architecture plan.
Once the design process is complete bids for construction of the gymnasium could be opened as early as the fall of this year, with shovels in the ground in spring, and usage of the gymnasium starting in fall of 2017. If the venture is proved to be too expensive, the auxiliary gym plan could be scrapped entirely.
The school board has tentatively scheduled a meeting for July 5 to meet with Thomas Porter Architects in July to discuss the criteria of the auxiliary gym.
The school board approved school breakfast/lunch prices for the upcoming school year. All meal prices with the exception of the student breakfast will remain unchanged from the 2015-2016 school year. The student breakfast will raise a quarter to $1.50 for the upcoming year.
