While many really do subscribe to the TGIF frame of mind, the downtown Bucyrus business community would like to add another letter to the acronym this summer – TGIFF, or Thank Goodness for First Fridays.

In an effort to reintroduce and promote downtown as an enjoyable place to not only shop, but to relax and enjoy the evening, First Friday Bucyrus is being presented this summer on June 3, July 1 and Aug. 5.

First Fridays (3)“Sue Logsdon of UB Dazzled is leading the crusade,” said Kim Goyer, sales manager and general manager of WBCO, WQEL and Crawford County Now.

Patrons, shoppers and browsers are to be enticed to spend a summer evening downtown to eat at local restaurants or even various food vendors brought in specially for the evening. They can take a leisurely stroll to and through the downtown shops, enjoy the arts with demonstrations and sales – and maybe even take part in health and fitness activities. There will also be activities for children.

Tentative themes for the three dates are Health and Fitness on June 3, an Art Walk on July 1, and a picnic with police and firefighters on Aug. 5.

“We need volunteers,” Goyer said, adding those interested are invited to come to the planning meetings.

Information about those meetings can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/FirstFridayBucyrus, or the Facebook pages for the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce and Bucyrus Area Tourism and Visitors Bureau. Those interested are also welcome to contact Trish Ratliff at Tourism and Visitors Bureau or Tyler Jacobs at the Chamber of Commerce.
