Returning to downtown Bucyrus this Friday evening after a successful debut on June 3 will be First Friday. Scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m., downtown businesses will have extended hours and sidewalk sales.
The second edition of the event designed to encourage people to the downtown business district will feature an art walk. The art walk will allow local artists and crafters to show off their work along Sandusky Avenue. There will also be a sidewalk art contest on Rensselaer Street by HomeCare Matters. The contest is for ages 6 through adult.
The blocks are on a first come, first served basis. Contestants can start “chalkin’” at 5 and must be complete by 6:30. The public can vote on their favorite chalk art from 6:30 to 8 and a Peoples’ Choice award will be announced at 8:30.
North of the square on the east side of Sandusky Avenue will be a designated area for children’s games and activities. The American Legion on East Rensselaer Street will be serving food in addition to vendors’ trucks located in that area.
The third and final First Friday will be Aug. 5 when the theme will be a picnic with city police and firemen.
